The communications unit in the police region Bergslagen, together with other communications units in other regions and nationally, is responsible for coordinating the Police Authority's communication work and providing strategic and operational communication support throughout the authority at all hours of the day.

You will be part of the communications unit in Region Bergslagen, which consists of 10 employees, of which 5 are communicators and 5 are press spokespersons. They are located in Örebro, Karlstad, Borlänge, and Falun, and the mission is to support the police region's communication work. The position is in Karlstad.

Job Description

As a press spokesperson, you will receive and handle calls from the media and act as the spokesperson for the authority in operational matters. You will work closely with the duty officer in the regional command center and those who will speak on various issues. In your role, you will also work proactively with the media to convey the police authority's messages. You will collaborate with press spokespersons in other regions, with the police's press secretary at the national media center, and with others in the communications department. You will have contact with press spokespersons in other authorities. You will also participate in staff work during special events.

  • Receive and handle incoming calls from the media
  • Act as spokesperson and represent the authority in operational matters/cases
  • Participate in work during special events in your role
  • Work proactively with crime prevention communication
  • Work proactively with the media by collaborating with the operational activities to convey the police authority's messages
  • Conduct media training and coach in media issues
  • Write news, press releases, message formulations, talking points
  • Manage environmental monitoring and conduct media analyses
  • Conduct press conferences
  • Participate in projects to develop the operations and assist in the communications department's other work
  • The work requires presence during inconvenient working hours

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • Relevant education for the job content or other education and experience that the employer deems relevant
  • Work experience in media management
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English
  • Experience in editorial text management and news evaluation
  • The position requires Swedish citizenship

It is advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience working in various digital channels
  • Communicative ability and can produce certain communication materials
  • Experience acting as an advisor in media issues

Personal Qualities:

To fit in the role, you have an easy time collaborating within and outside the communications department and can manage several parallel engagements and stakeholders. You are flexible and have a good ability to switch between planned and event-driven work as well as between strategic and operational tasks in sometimes high tempo. We see that you are responsible, meticulous, and willing to share your experiences, knowledge, and ideas. You have good judgment and awareness regarding confidentiality.

Job Title: Press Spokesperson

Work Location: Karlstad

Employment Type: Permanent position with a 6-month probationary period

Extent: Full-time

Working Hours: Period planning 5:3. The work includes shift work even on public holidays, evenings, and weekends, as well as 24-hour on-call duty according to the schedule
